About Us

We breed Pack Goats and manufacture backcountry Goat Packing Equipment in Mountain Home, Idaho. Hiking with goats is our lifestyle and we have thousands of trail miles worth of experience to show for it. We are also proud members of the North American Packgoat Association and I have served on their Board since 2019. I encourage all goat packers and those interested in getting started to join at NAPgA.org. Putnam Pack Goats has donated $7280 to NAPgA in gear sale and equipment donations since we started building gear in 2023. 

Our special SaberPine pack cross is a mix of Sable Saanen, Boer, and Alpine. We have 5 generations of Pack crosses at our farm with all of our retired breeding bucks continuing to prove themselves in our pack string. Dozens of the goats we have produced are now packing in strings all over the Northwest. Pack babies are typically born in mid February. We sell them for $550 each and they are weaned, vaccinated and available for pickup starting May 15th. All our bucklings are sent off horned and intact, and we do not recommend banding until at least 8 months. Doelings and occasionally moms with babies are also available by special request and are $300. We are currently taking reservations for 2027 and 2028 babies. We require a current NAPgA membership ($25) with all goat purchases.

Most of our items are in stock and ready to ship. All of our panniers are plain faced with a single NAPgA patch and include a $10 donation to NAPgA for each set of panniers purchased.

• Deluxe Aluminum Saddles - Fixed crossbuck $300/ea, Adjustable Crossbuck $350. Internal sideboard padding and padded straps with two options for crossbucks this is our original lightweight and user-friendly goatpacking saddle. Molle row on saddle is compatible with various pouches for water and small gear items. Weighs 4lbs. Recommended for loads up to 50lbs. 
• Ultralight Adjustable Saddle - Coming Soon - Adjustable Arch $350 Adjustable Crossbuck $400. The next generation of lightweight pack saddles  Laser cut aluminum and a design that has been streamlined to provide the ultimate in lightweight comfort without sacrificing strength. Includes saddle pads and padded straps. Weighs 3.2lbs. Recommended for loads up to 50lbs. 
• 2k and 3k cubic inch roll-top Panniers - $150/pair. Made with 1000D Nylon cordura. Great for bulky gear loads. Weighs 2.5-3lbs per pair. 
• 1.5k cubic inch top-close Panniers $75/pair. Made with 1000D Nylon cordura. Great for small gear loads and meat hauling. Weighs 2lbs per pair. 
• 2.5k cubic inch Ultralight Roll-Top panniers - $200/pair. Made with 210D gridstop fabric. Great for bulky gear loads. Weighs 1.5lbs per pair.
• Hybrid Hiker Saddle - $175/ea these saddles utilize the same sideboards as our Deluxe and features an adjustable Biothane webbing cross strap. Designed as a light duty hiking saddle this is a great option for younger packers 1.5 years and older or for older boys that don’t need to carry too much. Includes padded sideboard, padded yoke, and simple double cinch and rump strap. Works great with our 1.5ks and can be upgraded to deluxe components. Recommended for loads up to 20lbs.
